Every human being is a unique “bone biography”

“The skull provides clues to personal appearance. The brow ridge, the distance between the eye orbits, the shape of the nasal chamber, the shape and projection of the nasal bones, the chin's form, and the overall profile of the facial bones all determine facial features in life”

When you see a person walking in the street, try to imagine the engineering machinery that is working inside his body enabling that movement. This machinery looks like something unreal, but it is authentic. It’s what we called skeleton, just bones combined in a wonderful way.

This machine is determining the shape of our body somehow, meaning that the living tissues visible to the plane eye, following the bone records, grow to let us look like look. In addition, this bone record is conserved very well after dead, letting us studying the remains to know their origin (world location), the age, and the sex as well.

This is a short but very interesting video of History Channel explaining the skeletal growth:

This is an important concept that has been studied recently because, if we can find fossil records of, for ionstance a Homo neanderthalensis specimen, we can just predict how he looked like basing in some relevant craniometric points and key bones.

This amazing and exhausting reconstruction work is made by specialists like some Russian scientists who reconstructed the faces of ancient leaders by studying their skulls, using techniques pioneered by the great physical anthropologist Mikhail Gerasimov.
